Mountains, Memories & a Happy Dog: Our Favorite Mammoth Lakes Getaway

A dog-friendly Mammoth Lakes getaway we keep coming back to!

Some places are nice to visit once.

And then there are those places that somehow find their way into your heart… and make you start thinking about your next trip before you’ve even left. โค๏ธ

For us, The Westin Monache Resort in Mammoth Lakes is one of those places.

We first stayed at the Westin years agoโ€”before we started traveling with our dogโ€”and loved our experience so much that we knew we wanted to return. So when we discovered that we could bring our four-legged family member along on future trips, it made coming back even better!

Because let’s be honest…

A mountain vacation is pretty amazing.

But a mountain vacation with your dog? Even better! ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿ”๏ธ

A Cozy Place to Come Home To ๐Ÿก๐Ÿ”ฅ

After a day of hiking, exploring, shopping, or simply taking in Mammoth’s incredible scenery, there is something wonderful about knowing you have a comfortable room waiting for you.

Our room had everything we needed to settle in and relax.

We had a king-size bed, comfortable couch, fireplace, and a small kitchen areaโ€”giving us plenty of room to spread out and make ourselves at home.

But one of our favorite features was the elevated window lounge.

It was the perfect little place to sit with a cup of coffee, look out at the mountains, and simply enjoy the view.

There’s something special about being surrounded by Mammoth’s beautiful scenery and then coming back to a warm, comfortable room where you can slow down for a while.

After a full day of adventures, we loved kicking off our shoes, relaxing by the fireplace, and enjoying some downtime together.

The hotel even provided bathrobes, which was a fun little touch that made us feel even more comfortable.

It was part of the vacation.

And our pup seemed to agree! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿพ

After a day of adventures, she was perfectly happy to curl up and relax with us.

Honestly, a tired and happy dog curled up after a great day outdoors is one of the best parts of traveling with your furry family member.

For us, the room wasn’t just a place to sleep.

A Little Tip When Booking ๐Ÿ›Ž๏ธ

The Westin offers several different room layouts and configurations.

If you have something specific in mind and don’t see exactly what you’re looking for online, we recommend giving the hotel a call. There may be room options or details that aren’t immediately obvious when booking online.

For us, having the right room setup made our stay even more enjoyable.

After all, when you’re traveling with a dog, a little extra space can be a very good thing! ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿ˜‚

Location, Location… Adventure! ๐Ÿ”๏ธ๐Ÿพ

One of the things we really love about The Westin Monache is its location.

It’s conveniently located across from The Village at Mammoth and just off Lake Mary Road, making it a great home base for exploring the Mammoth area.

Want to explore?

You’re in a great location.

Want to shop or grab something to eat?

You’re nearby.

Want to head out into the mountains with your dog?

Adventure is waiting! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ”๏ธ

Whether you’re planning a full Mammoth vacation or stopping for a few days on your way to somewhere like Lake Tahoe or Yosemite, we think Mammoth is absolutely worth spending some time exploring.

Little Things That Made Traveling With Our Dog Easier ๐Ÿถ

The Westin also had a designated dog potty area on one side of the hotel.

It included cleanup bags and hand sanitizer, which was a nice convenience. We always travel with our own supplies, but we still appreciated the hotel providing them.

It’s those little things that can make traveling with a dog easier.

And throughout our stay, the staff members we interacted with were friendly, welcoming, and helpful.

Most importantly, we felt like our dog was genuinely welcomeโ€”not like she was simply being tolerated because the hotel had a pet policy.

And as dog parents, that makes a difference. โค๏ธ๐Ÿพ

Mammoth + Dogs = An Amazing Adventure ๐Ÿ”๏ธ๐Ÿถ

If you and your dog love being outdoors, Mammoth Lakes is an incredible place to explore together.

Beautiful scenery.

Fresh mountain air.

Outdoor adventures.

And plenty of opportunities to make memories with your four-legged travel buddy.

Whether you’re hiking, exploring, enjoying the scenery, or simply relaxing outdoors together, Mammoth has that special mountain atmosphere that makes you want to slow down and enjoy the moment.

One Important Reminder

If you’re planning activities where your dog can’t join youโ€”such as skiing or snowboardingโ€”make sure you have a plan for your pup.

Dogs should not be left unattended in your hotel room, so someone in your group will need to stay with them or you will need to arrange appropriate care.

Fortunately, there are so many opportunities for outdoor adventures in the Mammoth area that you may find yourself wanting to bring your dog along for much of the fun anyway!

Why We Keep Coming Back โค๏ธ

For us, The Westin Monache has become one of those places that feels familiar in the best possible way.

We’ve enjoyed staying there without our dog.

We’ve enjoyed staying there with our dog.

And we would happily return again.

The combination of comfortable accommodations, beautiful mountain scenery, a convenient location, thoughtful dog-friendly amenities, and a welcoming atmosphere makes it a place we genuinely enjoy.

Mountain adventures during the day? โœ”๏ธ

A Quick Note About Mammoth ๐Ÿ”๏ธ

You may hear this beautiful mountain area called several different names while planning your trip.

The official town name is Mammoth Lakes, but locals and visitors often simply call it Mammoth.

You’ll also hear Mammoth Mountain, especially when people are talking about the ski resort and mountain activities.

So if you see us using Mammoth, Mammoth Lakes, or Mammoth Mountain throughout our blog, don’t worryโ€”we’re not talking about three completely different places! ๐Ÿ˜‚ It’s all the same place.

They’re all names you’ll commonly hear while exploring this beautiful mountain destination.

A Note From Us โค๏ธ๐Ÿพ

Everything we share on our blog is based on our own personal experiences.

Every trip, hotel stay, and adventure can be different, so your experience may not be exactly the same as ours.

We’re simply sharing the places we’ve visited, the experiences we’ve enjoyed, and the things that have worked well for us and our dogs.

We hope you have an amazing Mammoth adventure of your own and create plenty of wonderful memories with your four-legged travel buddy along the way!

As always… stay safe, plan ahead, and keep on adventuring! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ”๏ธโค๏ธ
